Arrival

Just a quick update to let you know that Jon has made it to his new location. I talked to him today but it kept breaking up. He made it seem very "cool" where he is at. FOB, laundry, and such. The conversation lasted about 2 minutes. Hopefully I will be able to hear from him soon.

7 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A new "home"

Wow! I feel like I have not updated in awhile. Not that I haven't had the time, but because Jon is doing so well. Praise God! He has been tremendously busy and has been doing missions often. He seems to really love it. He loves sharing about his autonomy these days. He still manages to watch movies and read a lot of books.
Last week he mentioned that he would be moving to a new location. No internet, no phone. I was so scared thinking that his company had to move and transition to a whole new environment in Afghanistan. It blows my mind how adapted to change these soldiers have to be. But Jon is strong and has and can perservere through any and all things. So with that being said, he has packed up both his and his roomates things this week. His roomate is currently home with family visiting. They will be moving out tomorrow and heading to Southern Afghanistan. I am not quite sure why. However, he will still be able to call home and hopefully get online at times. That also means a new address. I will update the margin with his new information. I'm quite scared to see my phone bill this month with all the texting back and forth. Well worth it though!
As I sit here and write on this beautiful Fall morning, I cannot stop but realize how much hope Jon has. He has done incredible things not only for others but for his country.
This week he gave me the biggest surprise. I was working with the kids and I got a page from my awesome office staff. KiKi says "I need you to come to the office now. You have a package waiting for you." My immediate response...was Oh my goodness. I'm scared. We NEVER get paged to the office. We usually have our 'packages' outside our mailbox. I get down to the office and everyone is in the office. I look over and there is this HUGE, BEAUTIFUL, COLORFUL bouquet of flowers. I'm thinking what in the world? Then I notice a bag, and my favorite sponge candy! I go to read the note and it says: "I'll be home in two months. I love you very much!" Love Jon. I started bawling my eyeballs out. My principal must have thought I was nuts. I was in shock. I would never expect anything. And for him to send them all the way from Afghanistan in the middle of war...just made me that much more in awe. Jon is a truly amazing person! I am so grateful and blessed beyond measures!
Please continue to pray for his safety and safe return home in less than two months!
Yahooooooo <------ sense the excitement?

Love and Prayers,
Kristine

Never Forgotten

As we go about our busy days today, please stop to remember 9*11*01. Not just because it happened, but because of all those who sacrificed their service and their lives here on our homeland but also those who have fought and are still fighting overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Remember the families of those who lost their loved ones. The ones who saw the tragic events happening in NYC, Washington, and PA. I remember being in court for my first speeding ticket. Jon was just twelve years old.

Nine years later we are still fighting for what happened here. Looking for Al-Qauda, Osama Bin Laden...those who were responsible for the tragedy that shook our nation. Looking back, I wonder where we would be if this did not happen? Instead I think about all the great things that have happened since. Our nation has been strong, united, and determined. May we continue to remember those who serve our country. "In our hearts we weep for you. In our minds we honor you."
